BIODEGRADABLE WASTE TREATMENT FACILITY 

& COMPOSTING CENTER

   A.  The Process :

      1) Organic Waste Hammer Mill with chipping and shredding function.

          -  Collection trucks loaded with biodegradable wastes go thru an elevated ramp and dump its contents to a hopper opening of 10ft x 12ft x 8ft.  Organic wastes in controlled quantities run thru the belt conveyor system with geared motor drive and fed to the hammer mill feed entrance with main rotor disc @ 48” diameter complemented by 4 sets cutting blade to chip wood and shred organic wastes to fine particles. The fine particles are then ejected thru a rotatable blower system to load them directly to the collection bins.

        A trailer mounted / engine driven organic waste shredder is also activated in the facility to shred materials in small quantities that don’t pass thru the hopper or to refine further the particles in the windrow.

       2) Internal Logistics Handling within the facility.

            - Hooklift Truck picks up the loaded bin and dump it to a stockpile to form windrows 2.2 meters in width, 1.1 meter in height, and 25 to 100 meters in length depending on the physical lay out of the facility. The empty bin is then returned to the hammer mill site and replaced by loaded bins to continue the dumping sequence until long windrows are formed.

      3) Treatment for Odor and Waste Digester

            -  The Biomass Processing Equipment is loaded with adequate microbial mass consisting of microbial activator, trichoderma, and other cellulolytic fungal decomposer grown in liquid concentrate. This is thoroughly mixed in formulated dosage of water and integrated into the system of aeration, mixing, watering and turning operations first performed by the BPE on the windrow of fine particles of biodegradable wastes.

      4) Composting Process

            -  The windrow is monitored with respect to factors of C:N ratio, organic mass, ph level, moisture, and temperature.  The Biomass Processing Equipment is utilized for repeated operations of turning, aeration, mixing, and watering of each particle of the windrow to control these factors.  One cycle of composting will require 4 to 5 times BPE operations.    

      5)  Compost Booster for High Grade Organic Fertilizer Finish

-  The Compost Booster is thoroughly mixed with water as per formulated dosage and is applied to the windrow / stockpile of biodegradable waste on the last BPE operations prior to harvest of organic fertilizer. This compost booster consists primarily of azotobacter, azospirillum, and acetobacter to ensure a blend of naturally occurring beneficial microbes, nitrogen fixing bacteria, enzymes, trace elements and humic acid to effectively convert biodegradable waste to high grade organic fertilizer.  

       6) Sieving and Bagging

           -  At the end of the composting cycle, the highly humified compost particles are then sieved using manual sieving equipment or electric driven roller siever and bagged using electric sewing equipment for appropriate packaging and eventual selling of high grade organic fertilizer.

 

B.  Advantages of The Biodegradable Waste Treatment Facility and Composting Center

     1)  Eliminate the Need for Expensive Landfill.

            -  If combined with Central and Mobile MRF ( Materials Recovery Facility), the need for

         expensive landfill is duly eliminated.

          -  At the very least, if a sanitary landfill already exists in the area, it will extend the life of 

                   the said landfill for a prolonged period of time.

 

      2)  Health Benefits

            -  People in the community will no longer be held hostage by the foul odor and disease

                     emanated by controlled dump sites, unsanitary landfill, and other forms of waste

                     disposal facilities.

            -  People will reap the health benefits of organic farming.

 

     3) Agricultural Benefits

            -  Large quantity of high grade organic fertilizer will be made available to the local

                     community at the cheapest cost.

            - The great amount and quality of organic matter improves soil acidity and is the key to

                     better soil health.

            -  It corrects micro nutrient problems.

            -  It solves the problem of declining plant yield.

            -  There is a need for sustainable production thru integrated nutrient management.

            -  Compost produces the least methane.

            -  Organic fertilizer increases water holding capacity of soil.

 

     4)  Compliant with all environmental laws :  Solid Waste Managament Act, Clean Air Act, etc.

 

     5)  Financial Benefits

            -  The Facility is a one time investment which is recoverable within a reasonable payback

       period due to the revenues it will generate from producing high grade organic fertilizer.

            -  It is self sustaining financially as there is a huge market demand for high grade organic

          fertilizer due to the surge in prices of  commercial fertilizers.

            -  The land area required for the facility is kept at the barest minimum as materials that

                   enter the facility do not remain stagnant but is kept on active turn-over.   

 

     6)  Economic Benefits

            -  Most chemicals and synthetic fertilizers are hydro-carbon based. As the price of oil and

                      natural gas increase, the price of chemical fertilizers will correspondingly increase.

-  Majority of materials used in constructing a sanitary landfill  are imported and requires the

          lavish use of  our much needed foreign currency reserves.

 

 

C.  Major Equipment Components:

 1)       Biomass Processing Equipment

 A self propelled, engine driven aerator assembly with a complete set of hard-faced turner teeth and non retractable drum with drum height adjustments, 1,500 liter water tank, built-in water manifold, spray nozzles, inoculants dispenser, and windrow shaping flaps.

2)      Electric driven organic waste hammer mill with chipper and shredder coupled with unloading  deck  & vehicle ramp.       

3)      Trailer mounted / engine driven organic waste shredder.

4)      Containerized Office and Packaging Area with bag sewing equipment

5)      Set of Sheeving Screens.

6)      Initial Set of Organic Bio Cells for 1,000 Tons feedstock

        a)     OPERATING FEATURES OF THE BIOMASS PROCESSING EQUIPMENT

               1.      Aerate, Mix, Moisten and Inoculate as you turn the windrow of organic waste.

2.      Even and thorough application of water and inoculant.  The mechanical watering and inoculation system with water manifold and spray nozzles assures even moisture for each particle as the biomass processing equipment moves thru the row.  Turner water system and hose fitting is ready for quick attachment to the equipment water tank.  The convenience of adding water as the row is turned assures sufficient moisture for maximum biological activity and breakdown of organic matter.

3.     The use of the Biomass Processing Equipment prevents water run off, pooling, and leaching of nutrients.  In contrast to watering separately done from the aeration and turning operations, excess water can leach valuable nutrients.  

4.      The advance drum design enables variable drum speed, maximum aeration and CO2 release, peaks the windrow naturally, and results to superior blending.

5.      Easily adjustable drum height. The turning drum can be mechanically adjusted and locks in place for safe and easy transport.

6.      Exceptional reliability and low maintenance.  The simple design of the biomass processing equipment requires minimum maintenance, framed by heavy duty tubular steel construction, and is a product of expert craftsmanship.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

       A self  propelled / engine driven compost master equipment complete with 1,500 liter water tank, built-in spray nozzles and water manifold, windrow shaping flaps, and Mitsubishi 110 hp, 4 cylinder diesel engine.

A container van is converted to an office

to provide convenient administrative support

to the facility.  A portion of the van will serve

as packaging area with portable bag sewing

equipment.  Packaging will be done upon

receipt of sales order from prospective

customers.

Both manual and mechanized set of sieving screens will be provided in the facility to segregate the refined compost particles for eventual packaging and delivery to end user.

A blend of naturally occurring beneficial microbes,

nitrogen fixing bacteria, enzymes, trace elements,

fish emulsion, seaweed extracts and humic acid to

effectively decompose and convert organic waste
